Professor Katherine McGrath
In recognition of Exceptional Service to HMRI, we acknowledge Professor Katherine McGrath.
During her tenure as CEO of the Hunter Area Health Service from 1997 to 2004, Katherine McGrath championed the importance of research to clinical services and used her position to promote the innovative model of a virtual research institute at all levels of government and industry.
Katherine was also a Board member of the Hunter Medical Research Cooperative and a strong proponent for the importance of the partnership model between the area health service, the university and the community.
Katherine allocated resources and funding to the early stages of HMRI, without which it would never have got off the ground. Her vision and foresight of the role HMRI could play was without precedent, and helped lay the foundations for the development of medical research in the Hunter.
Katherine served as a Director of HMRI from its incorporation on 12 February 1998 until 13 July 2004.
For her willingness to take measured risk in investing resources and funding, to use her position to influence others and to believe in the value of research to clinical service delivery, please join me in congratulating Professor Katherine McGrath.
