Tour des Femmes is an initiative aimed at supporting endometriosis research and HMRI's post-natal depression unit.
To be held on the weekend of 19-21 October 2012, the ride will take participants from Sydney to the Bowral region and back to Sydney.
Endometriosis affects 1 out of 10 women of reproductive age. Being seldom talked about, the issue frequently goes un- or misdiagnosed only to have a devastating effect on women's physical, mental and emotional health
Ongoing endometriosis research projects will improve doctors' ability to diagnose endometriosis and to find a cure.
The event will also support HMRI's post-natal depression research project, "Here's looking at you, kid". This project investigates face processing dysfunction and its relationship with post natal depression (PND).
PND affects 10-15% of postpartum women and is known to significantly impact on the physical, emotional, social and cognitive development and wellbeing of the of the child which often leads to later developmental difficulties.
Ride participants must have a road bike (no hybrids, mountain bikes, fixed wheel bikes or townies) in good working condition. The peloton will ride approximately 100-160 kms per day at an average speed of about 25kph.
Recommended riding pre-Tour is a minimum of 200 km per week
Peloton etiquette and stops ensure safety - the group will always ride and finish together. It is not a race.
Cost:
The participation fee of $750 covers all costs of the ride, including accommodation, support vehicles, meals, ride food, cycle kit and mechanic services. While there is no minimum goal for each rider's fundraising it would be great to get as close to $2,000 each as possible, with the aim of raising $30,000 in total.
Be creative and part of the fun of fundraising with a team is encouraging and challenging each other to raise these much needed funds!
