Promising Hunter research into areas as diverse as prostate cancer, schizophrenia, pain management and asthma, received a boost with a record $340,000 in community and corporate donations awarded to the region’s top researchers from the University of Newcastle and Hunter New England Health at the HMRI Awards Night on November 8.
In total seventeen pilot grants and four individual awards were bestowed on the region's most talented researchers.
Grant funding awarded will support early stage research into common conditions and diseases facing the community. These projects have the potential to improve the lives of many within the Hunter and beyond and in time, may bring exciting advances.
