Promising Hunter research into areas as diverse as breast cancer, stroke, male infertility, leukaemia, multiple sclerosis and asthma, received a boost with a record $475,000 in community and corporate donations awarded to the region’s top researchers from the University of Newcastle, Hunter New England Health and Calvary Mater Newcastle at the HMRI Awards Night on November 8.
In total 15 pilot grants, 2 PhD scholarships and 5 awards and prizes were awarded to the region's most leading researchers.
Grant funding awarded will support early stage research into common conditions and diseases facing the community. These projects have the potential to improve the lives of many within the Hunter and beyond and in time, may bring exciting advances.
