2011/12 awards and grants

The medical research battle against diseases and disorders as diverse as melanoma, breast cancer, stroke, heart disease, asthma, diabetes, obesity, mental illness - even snakebites - received a major boost at the 2011 HMRI Awards Night

Almost $870,000 was handed out in support of 33 project grants plus 14 awards and prizes for individual researchers, signifying a record amount of funding and a record number of recipients.

The ceremony at Newcastle City Hall attracted 270 researchers and supporters for what’s become the night of nights on the medical research calendar.

Clinical Psychologist and researcher Professor Amanda Baker from the University of Newcastle was recognised as Research of the Year, while infertility researcher Dr Mark Baker was awarded the Early Career Researcher of the Year.
