information for researchers

The HMRI Research Register is a valuable resource for researchers and can assist researchers conducting health and medical research with participant recruitment.

To access participants from the Register, researchers must first have their study independently reviewed and approved by the University of Newcastle Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and/or the Hunter Area Research Ethics Committee (HAREC), and have satisfied the requirements of the HMRI Research Panel.

On application for permission to access participants through the HMRI Research Register, researchers are required to provide details of the specific procedures or tests to be undertaken by participants. This is required so that future investigators can exclude register members who have already completed specific procedures, or apply for ethics approval to access results on specific procedures previously undertaken by their participants.

Researchers are strongly encouraged to speak with the Research Register Coordinator before submitting a proposal, as considerable lead-time is required to process research proposals.
